Getting to Know You - If its use as a footrest or as seating is not sufficient relaxation, ottomans come in many different sizes, and double sized version can be used for relaxation or to cuddle up to your favorite person. They are armless loveseats, so the only way to avoid falling off the edge is to hold onto each other - or so you can claim!
There is no doubt that modern furniture styles have come a long ways towards being more comfortable and convenient. A prime example of this is how the ottoman of today serves several purposes, versus only offering a resting spot for feet and legs. The once heavy bases of vintage ottomans have been replaced with hollowed centers that turn the normal ottoman into a storage ottoman.
The Right Size - To be functional, an ottoman`s height should precisely match the height of the sofa or chair that you will occupy while using it. Ottomans should be chosen in consideration of those who will most use them. For some, a light ottoman will provide all the support needed. For others, a larger, wider piece is a better choice.
Storage Ottomans - Storage ottomans are virtually upholstered boxes with padded lids. The lids are hinged and open up to provide storage space that can be used in a number of ways. For example, an ottoman can be used as a coffee table with a sofa bed, and also to store the bedding for when the sofa is needed as a bed. It can be used as a piano stool, storing sheet music and other items.
These are the reasons behind the increasing popularity of compact furniture like ottomans. Not only they are compact, but they are also multifunctional. When you buy an ottoman, it can be used as a storage place, a foot stool, a seat, a coffee table, as well as a tray. In the absence of arm rests or backs like in sofas, they are relatively lightweight, and therefore easy to move. Ottomans are perfect for dorm rooms, small apartments, condominiums, and small homes.
Standard ottomans are basically footrests for an armchair or easy chair. That is all they are made to do. When some one says, "Put your feet up and take a load off," they are really telling you to sit down in a comfortable chair, relax and rest your feet on the ottoman that is in front of the chair.
